I am told that Windows Defender embedded in Windows 10 is more than sufficient and other software isn't necessary. :)

Sufficiency isn't the thing ..... it's how fast they react to new threats and the impact on performance that counts. BUT, under normal circumstances, the Windows built-ins will suffice (all have flaws in the real world). ;)

I use Win7 64 pro and don't use the MS components because they started eating CPU and disk-access - I had them for a while and my laptop just got slower and slower, until I replaced them. This isn't necessarily an MS thing, flushing out software every so often is healthy. The issue with McAfee (and others) is that they don't uninstall cleanly :(
