Round Robin overseas

Post by planteria » Tue May 07, 2019 12:42 am

at the start of each month i do a 'round robin', transferring funds between my current accounts to qualify for rates/bonuses. in a couple of months i will be away in Africa when i need to do this. are UK banks likely to allow me to log in to access my accounts, as long as i have cards/cardreaders/passwords as usual?

Why not? I've not had a problem from Portugal....
However, if you're worried, set up a VPN or proxy to appear UK-based.
Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me

Alternatively, you could just tell them in advance of leaving the UK where to expect communications/transactions from, ensuring the make notes on your account of your comments. This is all I do with my banks ahead of leaving the UK and I have had no adverse issues...

it just occurred to me that i don't want to have a problem, as the money shifting is important for me.
some websites, including this one, don't operate the same if they identify that you are overseas.

It is best to tell the bank which country you will be in and to expect some money to be transferred. Eg XXX into / out of this account being paid to XXX account.

As far as VPNs are concerned, yes you can use them, it depends upon how good your bank fraud detection systems are. Most banks will have invested in technology that detects the use of VPNs - once detected you will be blocked.

Depending upon your point of view, when in Turkey I do the more risky strategy or less risky strategy. I pay someone I trust and write down exactly what they need to do, how, why and when. I pay them the cost upfront before I travel and a small "cash bonus" for their time and effort. Plus to sweeten the deal, upon my return I get them a gift from abroad that is hard to find in England. For example, in Turkey they make high quality prayer mats at a good price - I tweak it and I pick the geometric designs - they can be used for anything - some people hang them on the wall for decoration. The ladies love it.

I tried the VPN trick whilst abroad and I've had cashback declined. The (imutual?) systems detected a transaction from outside of the UK - so I lost a few pence. In my mind it was worth a mini gamble:
1. At the cost of a few pence, it was worth a test run to see what would happen.
2. Maybe Richard would award the cashback as a gesture of goodwill - he didn't.
3. I'm playing a good game - maybe I can max it out further.
Fortune favour the bold.
Had it have worked then it would have opened the door to more possibilities whilst in Turkey.

In Turkey you can access the imutual forums no problem (I'm always here). Istanbul internet is fast but In the villages it is slow.

I have a bank account as two different banks and have set up DD, the money goes from my main personal account into the one I use for internet purposes. I get the monthly bonus and the money is sent back to my main account a few days later. No work needed by me.

But without knowing the ins and outs of the bank transfers I do not know if this is the answer. And, no, I am not interested in knowing more than I already so about the reasons for moving money around.

Can you future date the transactions?

In my experience, it's only necessary that funds are in place on the transaction date. The balance when the instruction is given is unimportant. You might wish to stretch out the transactions to be certain that the funds have arrived in each case before the onward payment is executed.
