Do you "eat clean"

Post by blythburgh » Wed Jul 17 2019 11:09am

I do. All my fruit and veg are washed before eating. Meat not washed as that can spread any bugs but it is cooked so that makes it clean.

Never bothered to read any of the articles etc promoting "clean food" as I am not interested in the latest diet fad

Nor do I. Sloppy wording by me. Following in the footsteps of the buffoon and The Donald

In my youth I would think nothing of picking apples , pears , blackberries etc and just eating them without washing them, but today with the use of insecticides I am obviously more careful

In this day and age, chemicals used are often systemic and therefore any residue left is within the product and this can't be washed away. Personally, I rarely wash anything, as most of my fruit is home grown or peeled and vegetables are cooked. If you're going to be fussy, then by all means wash salad crops or anything you eat raw.

I grew up eating organic fruit and veg, most of the year it was goats milk straight from the Nanny. The only allergies I have are to sticking plasters and cigarette smoke. But so many people I know who ate home grown stuff from plants treated with chemicals or shop bought stuff again not organic have allergy problems.

I would always wash my fruit and veg as I know how few people wash their hands after a trip to the loo. They are then picking and packing the stuff or just pawing in the shop.

But the fad for clean eating is not one I choose to follow. Lots of fruit and veg, not a lot of processed food or meat but I could still develop cancer etc. But I choose to let that happen in the future and worry about it then not fret over what might not happen
