Happy Christmas...!?!

Post by Boro Boy » Fri Sep 06 2019 10:16pm

I know we have just had the start of Autumn but when I went out to do a top-up shop in the local Sainsburys I was surprised to find a new Christmas section!!!

Yes its only the 6th September so isn't this just a little early for Xmas!?! :o

I think that Christmas starts in earnest from the August Bank holiday

Do we criticise the stores for putting out the Christmas stock - or the customers for buying it?

You can be sure that if no-one did buy Christmas goods in September, the stores wouldn't let it take up shelf space.

I think it has one benefit and one drawback:

1) it helps to spread the cost of Christmas. Yes you can buy store Christmas stamps through the year and get a bonus come Nov/Dec but that means you cannot shop around

2) you buy the long life food that is on offer like those big tins of rubbish chocolates only to find they have been eaten so you buy more tins. And they are eaten so you buy more and more.

I am really pleased I leave such a long lasting impression on you; but I'm sure it was not made as early as it is this year, the beginning of September...!

If one store does it then all the other stores follow.

It isn't scientific, my experience is Sainburys and Waitrose.
