Every child is different , some only respond to a smack , ( as long as it is not excessive )

Nonsense. A smack means you've lost (or never had) control. Well done Scotland, leading the way again.

SCOTTISH PARENTS: Kids acting up? Just drive over the English border, give the little brats a right good slap and there you go. No laws broken.

I know some parents who are grandparents/greatgrandparents who never smacked their children. Lovely children who have followed their parents no smacking policy and have lovely well behaved children.

As one said to me, others said to me it is always a pleasure to have your children round as they are so well behaved unlike some who come here. The same lady said if you have to smack you have lost the battle with your child.

Does smacking work? Well Stephen Fry was caned many times at school which he accepted as he had done wrong and it was soon over. But he really hated it when he was given detention or "lines" as that was not a quick punishment.

Children and dogs are alike in many ways. How often have you heard an owner calling an apparently deaf dog? The dog has been allowed to be in control at times and does what it wants. On occasion I have seen the dog given a smack for misbehaviour. But like the child, it is not the dog but the owner who needs the smack for not training the dog. And parents are to blame for not making sure that when they say no, it does not mean yes later down the line.
Keep smiling because the light at the end of someone's tunnel may be you, Ron Cheneler
