Perhaps, perhaps not. We shall let the lovely Ladies @imutual decide.

They hid the fact for years but finally admitted that Alexa or whatever other unnecessary thing you have in your house was recording your conversations "so the computers could learn our language"

If only the LibDems had enough money to do this. Another crazy fake news and another insulting name calling post.

And this is from someone who cries foul if anyone should say anything that might be an attack on his good name

They can only spy on you if you have a social media account of some description. It is up to the individual which if any they have and how they customise their settings.
All your emails are recorded . Mobile calls and texts are recorded ( probably land line calls as well ). CCTV records where you are . Number plate recognition will show where you go . Satellites can now pinpoint someone on the ground.

Why do the police find it so difficult in catching criminals
I was replying to the original post which was discussing Social Media not to the wider issue in society.

Apparently not. If there is a facebook logo on a web page, it drops a tracking cookie. As I understand it, that will track visits by the user to other web pages with the same logo. This does not rely on the user having a fb account - although it can't actually identify you or distinguish between you and other users of the same browser.
I clear all my cookies several times a day. Having a FB cookie on my computer does not bother me. It is likely to be gone in an hour and anyway can't identify me as an individual.
Facebook can still create what's known as "shadow profiles"

That data comes from a range of sources, said Nate Cardozo, senior staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation. That includes brokers who sell customer information that you gave to other businesses, as well as web browsing data sent to Facebook when you "like" content or make a purchase on a page outside of the social network. It also includes data about you pulled from other Facebook users' contacts lists, no matter how tenuous your connection to them might be.

Quite outrageous really.

Mr Boro Boy has put his own spin on the report that he links - no-one is watching every voter and that's not what the news report says.

But it's a fair point - marketers target their advertising using a whole lot of data points to judge the likely receptiveness of those people to their message. If you know that someone is called Susan, they're more likely to be of the age to buy Tena rather than Pampers.

Political parties are no different and I would imagine they've all been doing this for years to some extent. There is now a lot more data available - if I am off-grid to the extent of never using social media, browsing in incognito mode, etc, knowing just my name and postcode would probably be enough to start predicting the likelihood that I would vote a particular way - and that's all that the LDs are doing.

"This includes which party they will vote for in the next election" -- very clever of them , I don't know myself which way I will vote at the next election
