Someone has posted this today on a local Facebook page.
I've been looking at options for my Granddaughter who got some fabulous results in her GCSE's.
But what I found out shocked me, well it didn't really it just made me realise how the English are thought of by our own Government and the EU.
If my English Granddaughter wanted to go to university in Scotland she would have to pay £9250 per year tuition fees for her 4 year course.
If anyone from the other 27 countries in the EU want to send their children to a University in Scotland they would pay Jack Shit, not a Bean, Zilch, not a single penny.
Why are the English not classed as European Citizens when it comes to going to University in Scotland?
And who is paying the fees for the students who study in Scottish Universities?
Just wonder why the English are discriminated against

Explanation here
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-23279868
Because of European law, the Scottish government also has to provide free tuition at Scottish universities for students from other EU countries - but not for those from other parts of the UK.
Essentially this is because it is possible to discriminate between students from different parts of an individual member state but not not to discriminate against those from other parts of the EU.

It's not just the English, it is also the Welsh and those from Northern Ireland - because, under the applicable application they are part of the same "state" as Scotland, i.e. the UK
Westminster decided to impose tuition fees on students, but the Scottish Parliament then voted to spend part of it's budget to continue the provision of free education for scottish students. Under EU rules, students from other EU states must be treated in the same way, but it does not govern what happens within states (whatever the UK press may suggest).

In that case I don’t really see What the issue is?
More ‘Shocked and outrage’ nonsense
Why not just study for free at any EU Uni?

Tuition fees makes it harder for the disadvantaged to access quality education.

Leavers and Remainers can agree on the nonsense that is often printed in the press and on social media should stop and we discuss our differences in a friendly and sensible way.

IMHO, the commercialization of tertiary education has been one of the worst changes imposed upon us over past decades. Where are the colleges to provide adult education? Where are the polytechnics? They've become "universities" and they all charge big fees..... and pay their CEOs vast sums. It's a money-making machine, churning out "graduates" who have no career paths to follow.

Post arrived this morning with a non addressed University of Lincoln card with gold front telling me about their open day.
How many households will get it who have no-one interested in University?
And our local FE became part of the University of Suffolk which meant a local teenager could afford to do an art degree as she could live at home. Otherwise it was impossible for her. Got her degree this summer, having a gap year (not round the world but getting married on Saturday in a nice but cheap wedding and working for the year). Then taking up teacher training course. But I can see macliam's point and certainly cannot see the advantage of academies and free schools. Our nearest free school had to wait a year before the school in Beccles would be vacated. So at vast expense a local now empty school was modernised just for one year. Great for the few but the many lost out on funding for their education
And an interesting report I read the other day said ofsted inspections rated all County Council run schools above the academies here.
