Surely we accept that Brexit will take 10 or 20 years to sort out, but in that longer term things for our country, as an independent, may be better.
It seems a shame then that the decision was taken largely by people who won't be around then..... :eh:
The same happened in 1975 when the UK voted to join the Common Market. I was too young to vote then.

I see no evidence to suggest that things will be better. It's more likely that we'll have 'fake' independence where we can theoretically say "up yours Delors" to the EU and the US etc and define our own path but more than likely we'll have to go along with what they decide.

It all seems so utterly pointless, and the track record of the people in charge of it should (but obviously didn't) make people wary of the promises.

Only maybe and personally I cannot see it being better. In the meantime we will be Trump's poodle if we want a trade deal with the USA

Now some won't even accept the election result
Hundreds of protesters clashed with police when they marched through central London and in front of Downing Street in a demonstration against the election of Boris Johnson.

Unsurprising, he is after all a very Marmite person. Throughout history there has always been people who are unhappy with what they do not agree with and are willing to agitate for their cause. Part of it also is because they do not believe in the current form of democracy the UK uses. Chadwick refers to this in his post.

But it's worth noting that 53% of the population voted for parties whose Brexit policy was either cancel or 2nd Ref. And as I'm sure you'll agree, 53% is a resounding landslide victory.
...and I also guess some have a strange idea of democracy if things don't go the way they wanted, yet still have the audacity to call themselves democrats!

the trouble with the last referendum was the leave vote was largely the retired like yourself, expresso, but the remain was largely working people and students. So the people most affected will lose out as their jobs and workers rights are at far more risk now.

Closing this thread now as it's getting a bit long (and has possibly served its purpose).

But feel free to start another if necessary
