Really bad news locally if it does. We had three dept. stores in the town then Beales bought Palmers and closed one of the two shops and Kerrys which was round the corner from the main shopping street closed.

Could be down to none and three huge empty shops. Not good for a town centre that has already lost its Tesco Metro leaving another big gap.

Hawkin's Bazaar (retailer of toys and novelties) has gone into administration. There are 20 stores and 180 employees.

Stores will continue to trade for now - presumably to raise cash from clearing stock. I can't see anyone wanting to take on the stores, although someone might just buy the online business.

Not surprising really.

I remember the early years when it was all mail order. You got a delightful catalogue with lots of little anecdotes and full of mainly handcrafted and well researched stocking fillers that were worth what they cost. Orders often arrived with a really nice free gift included. The shops, however, were full of junk. You often had to sort through the trays to find something that was not already broken and the toys rarely lasted beyond Christmas.

Indeed. Shame really - always full of those very tacky looking products - the mug's eyeful for Christmas and gimmicky items that had little use other than a "30 minute novelty disposable present". Nothing much of any quality you could rely on.

They used to have HQ near us. Building had a huge and I mean huge clock on it. HQ moved and in the end the clock went elsewhere. A sad day and sad Hawkins Bazaar is going for the staff. Went into the shop in Castle Mall, Norwich many years ago and thought it was great but with no children to buy for left without buying anything. Too many like me sigh
