Laura Ashley enters administration.

All standalone Carphone Warehouse stores to close.
Both too early to blame on reduced trade due to the virus. To coin a phrase, they had underlying conditions.

Laura Ashley already in trouble. Coronavirus just tipped the scale too far for them.

Carphone Warehouse apparently due to changing habits of how people buy phones, rather than Coronavirus woes.

Coronavirus - the straw that broke the stores back.

Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me

Despite the chancellor finding the Magic Money Forest today, I expect we'll see thousands of business go to the wall, including some big household high street names. Remember Debenhams wavering, and WH Smiths has looked like it needs a makeover for some time. I think WHS get most of their income from shops at airports and train stations, so they could be doubly hit.

Yes and of course when too many customers have a problem, the banks have a problem, so we'd be looking at more bank bailouts too if borrowers aren't supported. Unless there's a surprising turn of events quite soon the economic fallout is going to be with us for years, perhaps decades and also whatever the government might be saying, if there was previously any doubt about the transition period having to be extended, it's surely inevitable now.

Might need to rename this thread ‘40 stores that are still open!’

Yes, every shop that closes means less choice for us but far worse, no job for others and a decreasing job market for them to get another one. How many will be forced into the gig/zero hours jobs and no guarantee they can pay the rent/mortgage. How will it affect the pensions due to those who lose jobs? A nightmare for these workers and others who still have a job in the retail sector
