Virgin Money Current Account Wine Switch

Post by Sarah » Wed Nov 18 2020 12:00am

Get a free luxury 15-bottle case of wine (worth £180) from Virgin Wines, delivered to your door.
Feast on a 2.02% AER (2.00% gross per annum variable) interest rate, paid monthly, on the first £1,000 of your Virgin Money Current Account balance.
Looks good - note that it needs 2 x DD to qualify and leave £1000 in a linked 0.5% savings account!

the rate deal is weak, if you have to tie up a grand at 0.5%
but the wine makes it worthwhile. can we bag a few of these each, i wonder..

You only need to leave £1000 in the savings account until the wine voucher arrives, which it says should be within 31 days of qualifying, so not much opportunity cost of doing that.

I suppose the requirement to be a "new" customer would logically exclude doing the offer multiple times, if they enforce that condition.

I've recently consolidated most of my extraneous accounts except the TSB ones that become useless next month. Just need to sort out the necessary DDs and then I'll be doing one of these switches.

For anyone like me who has never heard of the word "extraneous":
Irrelevant or unrelated to the subject being dealt with.

That definition doesn't fit this context too well; here's one that's hopefully more helpful:

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/extraneous
Not essential or intrinsic

Right you are Sarah. English is not my first language.

I'd heard of the word "extra", for example "extra martial affair", but not had the pleasure to come across "extraneous".

Didn't someone mention technical difficulties with this application form? Perhaps it wasn't here... I wonder if they were able to overcome the problem. Anyway, now have my DDs in place, so I'll be applying this weekend. The offer itself still has no fixed end date that I can find; they only mention the wine voucher expiring 31 December 2021 (next year).
