Not sure why I needed to know or why I remember something so unimportant. But 1d or 1 old penny was worth 1 cent. So I could have got $2.40 for £1. Nearer to half that now so we should all have been taking our American holidays in 1971 not 2021

I heard a rumour that Jacob Rees-Mogg was starting the 'currency research group' to campaign for a return to £sd.

I know it was hated at the time but I loved the new metric stuff. Still mentally have to do a conversion in my head. But for every child who did not have to suffer Pounds Shillings and Pence and above all Imperial measurements in Maths classes I raised a cheer.
