The Census

Post by blythburgh » Wed Mar 24 2021 9:09am

Some interesting questions on there none of them my business of course unless it is our form we are filling in.

But I will ask one question: what did you put down about which "country" you felt you belonged to. Some pro remain social media sites were pushing for people to say European. People posted in the one I belong to they had put European and one or two British/European.

And before you ask I am half Cornish so could only say British not English.

And, yes, I did give the "European option" some thought. But decided against it so my form had British as how I saw myself

I was born of Brigantes parents in the land of the cornovii, but that gets a little confusing so I tend to put English

A true child of Cornwall knows their blood line is not English but British.

'im indoors surprised me, he is proud to be an East Anglian but instead of choosing English he chose British. I know because he got me to fill in the form and I asked when it was not obvious like what sex are you

The form didn't force you to choose one option over all others; it was possible to select as many options as you like, including adding any of your own that weren't already listed as suggestions.

Yes that is why I could have added European or British/European but I chose how I always think of myself: British. Yes, I am a Hampshire Hog and always will be, yes, I am an adoptive East Anglian and yes, I am a European. But if asked my instinctive answer is British. And if asked by someone from abroad my automatic answer is Great Britain, not UK or England

Most English people don't know the difference anyway. Generally, only those who live outside England but in the UK/GB tend to recognise the difference.
