"We have responded to feedback from some of our customers and we have decided to retain the option for them to receive Premium Bonds prizes through the post," Mr Ackerley said.

"Warrants"...Government speak for cheque, basically. Usually don't have the same 12 month validity as a cheque though, normally stated on it: 1 month, 3 month etc.

6 months for cheques but if it expires you are entitled to get the issuer to write another one up to 6 years from the transaction date
PB prizes don't expire ever

It's taken a while, but NS&I has boosted the prize rate on Premium Bonds from next month, up from 1% to 1.4%.

Wow, it looks like ERNIE just made this my best winning month since 2007! :o

I had more bonds back then too, so this is probably my luckiest month ever!

Premium Bonds ‘highest-paying option’

Premium Bonds will become the “highest-paying savings account in the UK”, said The Times, after National Savings & Investments increased the return on the monthly draw to its highest level since 2008. From next month, the more than 22m Premium Bonds holders can expect to earn 3% a year, up from 2.2%, beating the best easy-access savings account on the market, 2.9% from Buckinghamshire Building Society. There will be more prizes but the odds of any individual £1 bond winning a prize will remain at 24,000-1.

sounds good to me. risk of falling short of alternative accounts on the market, of course, but 3% is handy, and it's far more fun.
