Monkey Virus

Post by Richard Frost » Tue Jul 20 2021 4:54pm

A man has died after contracting a rare infectious disease known as the Monkey B virus that is carried by primates, Chinese officials have revealed.

The victim, a 53-year-old veterinarian, is the first reported human case of the virus in China and worked at a Beijing research institute specialising in primate breeding, according to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CCDC). Two of his close contacts, a male doctor and a female nurse, were isolated following his death but tested negative for the virus.

The victim was a 53-year-old veterinarian from Beijing who contracted the infection while dissecting dead monkeys in early March, according to China’s CDC Weekly. The patient started showing symptoms in April and died on May 27, officials said. Two close contacts have since tested negative for the virus.

We could point the finger at China but first we should remember how "Mad Cow Disease" came about.

But our interaction with nature in ways we should not be doing cannot be good for any of us
