Apparantly OFGEM are consulting on the future of the price cap and how it can be changed/reworked etc. But there will continue to be failures whilst companies are forced to buy gas at a lower price than they can sell it for. The market will continue to consolidate whist the current climate is with us. How it looks afterwards will depend a great deal on prices and what OFGEM decide to do with the price cap. In the short term it is almost certain that prices continue to rise, largely because the government in this country will continue to impose numerous levies on the consumer (See macliam post above) Interesting brakdown of costs here https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/energy-advice- ... nergy-bill More levies to come? see here https://uk.news.yahoo.com/energy-crisis ... 00710.html

Bulb to go into administration.

Probably the first name on this list that I have heard of, and largest company so far I think with 1.7 million customers.

Two other much smaller companies which have also stopped trading are Neon Reef Limited and Social Energy Supply Ltd, https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications/o ... supply-ltd

OFGEM have not yet released a press release regarding Bulb

Press release now issued.
Ofgem statement on Bulb message to customers.

Customers of Bulb do not need to worry - Bulb will continue to operate as normal. Ofgem is working very closely with Government. This includes plans for Ofgem to apply to Court to appoint an administrator who will run the company. Customers will see no disruption to their supply and their account and tariff will continue as normal. Bulb staff will still be available to answer calls and queries.

Interestingly it looks like it will be the first to be put into Special Administration effectively where it is run by the government through the regulator Ofgem. A decision will have to be made eventually whether to sell or wind down the company. But meanwhile customers unlike previous energy failures will not be transferred to other suppliers.

It was only in March that Bulb was taking on customers of other failed energy suppliers.

I am with Bulb. Luckily, I just managed to reclaim £500 surplus credit from them (still leaving £300 surpus), but I had a missed appointment to fit smart meters which "should" have resulted in a payment, but may now get "forgotten" (the payment is a derisory £30, but better in my pocket than theirs!).

Now it's a case of seeing what will happen...... but it's a marker to anyone on one of the smaller companies that they are far from safe.

Just because I'm paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get me

I've been looking at the price of gas over nearly the last 30 years and was surprised to see the price from 2003 to 2009 and how much higher it was than currently https://uk.investing.com/commodities/natural-gas
