BBC confirming that he's going today!
Boris Johnson is to stand down as Conservative Party leader after losing the support of his ministers and MPs.

A Conservative leadership contest will take place this summer and a new prime minister will be in place in time for the party conference in October.

In the meantime, Mr Johnson will continue as prime minister.

Apparently he is saying he will resign and stay until the Autumn in order for an ordered transition. Announcement to be made later today. Will there be tears? I can't see that the men in grey suits will accept the autumn proposal and suspect they will try to get this done ASAP

Champagne for Sarah tonight?

The rumour has it that ministers have complained that there has been no replies to their resignation letters. A number 10 spokesman said that they have had overwhelmingly large postbags over the last three days and that every letter that needs a reply will get one once they are fully staffed again.

BREAKING
Truss returning to London

Chris Mason

Political editor

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss is cutting short her trip to a G20 meeting in Indonesia and returning to London.

She will issue a statement "shortly", I am told.

There are also rumours that some resigned ministers are saying they're prepared to return to their posts conditional upon Johnson departing immediately.

No. 10 claim that Johnson has successfully appointed a new cabinet, details to be announced shortly.

Meanwhile, Keir Starmer has told BBC News that if Johnson attempts to stay then the opposition will hold a parliamentary vote of no confidence.

Why, oh why is Truss still considered fit to be PM?
