Poll to sell all club investments

Post by richard@imutual » Fri Jul 29 2022 3:44pm

I met with our chairperson Andrew the other day and agreed to start a poll proposing that we sell all of the club's current holdings and close the Interactive Investor account.

As per recent discussions, there has been virtually no activity in the club for a year or so and the II account costs us £10 per month. So what is left of our holdings is gradually eroding in value. One option is to close the club entirely, but the most pressing issue is to stop paying £10/month to Interactive Investor. By selling all our current investments, any member would be free to "cash out"

But retaining the bnak account (which has no monthly charge) does at least keep open the possiblity of restarting the club in some form. Please vote!

This statement is disingenuous. There was activity here on the thread from some who wanted to leverage down / sell out when things were in a better space. The only reason this didn't translate into club action is that all of these threads were ignored by the people who pull the levers. This includes you, Richard.

I got out and am no longer a member, but if I'd have been stuck in I'd be really quite cross at the way this group has been left to fade into obscurity. I know that sometimes life takes over, and that's fair and understandable, but to not even comment on threads or update members? This seems a bit off. Some have been unable to get out. Some have lost out. This could have been avoided.

The club was great but it has been allowed to fade into the ether.
That is also the fate of this entire site.

What a waste. What a shame.

Cannot understand why one person has voted no. Why pay money each month when you get nothing for your money. Bit like paying for Netflix when you have no TV or internet connection. It is totally illogical

Can you please point to "activity in the club" in the past year or so which I have ignored? I am treasurer which means I do the vast majority of ongoing work but have the same power / voting rights as other members

I expressed concern a long time ago that (at the time) 75% of our investments were in a single company - PGM. When the price halved to around 80p, we held a poll on whether to sell. My instinct was that it was probably too late and we should hold on for a recovery. Given what's happened since that was a mistake, but a mistake is not the same as ignoring something

Hello

Has the vote closed?
If so, what is the next step and any timeline, if not how long till the vote closes?

It is for member to decide if this kind of delay is the same as "activity that is ignored".
I'm just glad it's not my skin in the game.
