im a dog owner and i know that they do need a microchip
a small cost for piece of mind.

The main reason seems to be that vicious dogs can be traced back to their owners. But the breeders of illegal dogs and dogs trained to be "weapons" will make sure the dog is not microchipped.

But every dog and cat owner should have this done. If the animal goes missing then if found they can be re-united with the owner.
