me too

i often read a post that is helpful/interesting/funny or whatever and dont think to 'Like'
i think encouraging volume of posts, either quality or re. a 'proper' subject, is a good thing

as requested, i have made an effort to help build the Finance & Property forum. i dont assume that the shares will ever be really valuable, but it's nice to 'be part of' the site and to receive shares as reward for being involved in discussions

Whilst I like that more useful posts are better rewarded (that's the idea), I think the post count will be severely reduced. I think I brought up a simiar question previously, being rewarded for useful posts.

Oh well, the new proposal can be trialed... When does this come in?

Let's face it, there is nothing more dispiriting than taking the trouble to post and not getting a single response. If it happens too often then you'd soon be off somewhere else.

The "quality" of the reply isn't really the issue.

Agree and disagree - I once used a forum where you were encouraged just to reply 'thanks' or 'interesting', etc. If you didn't do this you would fall below the community activity level and then get ads and other interuptions. I see no point in 50 people saying 'thanks' after an initial post.

The very simple policy of a reply earns you a share was good as usually the replies were of interest or added to the topic.

Question for Richard.

What value do you place on increased activity in the forums and will this offset the effect of devaluing individual shares?
