#MSE Tip [Car MOT for £10] @ Halfords
Halfords is offering a £10 MOT* (normally £35) at its 300+ Autocentres in England, Scotland and Wales when you buy anything from a Halfords retail store or online by Wed 15 May.
You'll need to book your £10 MOT by Wed 26 June, but the MOT can be carried out up to May 2020, so even if your MOT isn't due until next year, you can still take advantage.

The cheapest items we found at Halfords were a 50p sponge* or £1.50 car air freshener* – so you could spend as little as 50p to qualify for a £10 MOT. It's better to do it in store as there's a £3.99 delivery charge for online orders under £40.
How to get the '£10' MOT
In store, you'll be given a voucher at the till containing a unique code for your £10 MOT. If you buy online for delivery, you'll receive an email voucher within two to seven working days.
You can only book your '£10' MOT online – visit this Halfords Autocentre MOT page by 11.59pm on Wed 26 June and add an MOT (or combined MOT & service) to your basket. Enter your voucher code during the checkout process.
The MOT itself can be carried out until 16 May 2020, depending on availability at your nearest Autocentre.
Halfords has said there's no limit to the number of people who can claim the offer – just that it's one per person. If you return your purchase, Halfords says this will invalidate your £10 MOT offer.
Are Halfords MOTs any good?
Like any nationwide chain, there's good and bad feedback, but at least as Halfords is a big chain, it gives you more avenues if something goes wrong, and you can use the free Resolver complaints tool to help, if it gets bad.
Where there are complaints about MOTs in general, they tend to be around whether garages try to push their own repairs. But if your vehicle has a dangerous fault, by law, you won't be allowed to drive it away and will have to have it repaired at the specific garage, or towed elsewhere – see how MOT rules have changed.
If unsure about using any garage, it can be safest to go to a council test centre, as they generally don't do repairs so there's little vested interest to fail you in the hope you'll spend – but because you may not always be able to drive away if there’s a big problem with your motor, there’s a small risk going to council centres.

"I was a bit apprehensive about this offer expecting them to 'look harder' etc to find faults. However my experience could not have been better at Wakefield store.
I bought an air freshener for about £2... Booked online for 11am and text received day before as reminder and to go 10 mins earlier. Got there and was told about an hour, reception very friendly and car ready by 11.50. Even spoke to technician who confirmed he was not under pressure to find faults etc!
