I live in Northern Ireland, I can't buy plants from mainland UK, it will never work for me because of NI Protocol / Windsor Agreement, Leave EU means LEAVE EU
Happily, as we stand today, we're on the way to this being fixed as the UK slowly, and silently, starts agree to realign with EU rules. The next step after that will be for us to realise we've got no say in making them, and we'll ask to sit in the room where it happens. But we're ten years from that just now. The question is who gets there first - Tories or Labour. I suspect, after the drubbing they're going to get at the next election and at the rate their membership dying out or deserting, that it'll be the Tories.

One day, in the not too distant future, this whole thing will be a dystopian nightmare, a story of what happens when you let a man-child run the country.

I saw a picture from a live feed in Trenton Gardens. Stoke on Trent. There were only 6-7 people there. This is not 1953 99.9% of houses now have TV. + Not really a day for outside communal activities given the weather. Not sure what any of it has to do with brexit though.

"We need more EU workers, admits leading Tory Brexiter"
A leading Tory Brexiter on Sunday calls on ministers to reopen the UK’s borders to tens of thousands of young workers from EU nations in order to tackle acute post-Brexit labour shortages that he says are driving up inflation.

In an extraordinary admission of the failures of immigration policy since the UK left the EU, former Tory environment secretary George Eustice said Rishi Sunak’s government should begin bilateral negotiations with EU nations immediately, with a view to offering young Europeans under 35 the right to two- year visas to work in this country.

The Times, Friday July 21 2023...

The success of Paris in luring banks from London after Brexit has exceeded expectations and is increasingly reflected in France’s balance of payments, the central bank said.

Financial firms that moved from London contributed €1.5 billion to France’s financial services surplus last year.

“Paris’s post-Brexit success has been spectacular, it’s recently been picking up and exceeds our expectations,” François Villeroy de Galhau, governor of the Bank of France, said as he presented an annual report on the country’s balance of payments.

"Post-Brexit UK border food checks delayed again on inflation fears"
Ministers announced as recently as April that a new “border target operating model” would start to be rolled out from October 31 with a full regime in place by October 2024.

But government insiders have told the Financial Times that while final details of the border plan would be published “very soon”, its implementation on the ground would be pushed back.

“The driving force behind this is the need to bear down on inflation, that’s why there will be a delay,” said one government insider briefed on the plan. “There will be additional costs at the border.”

A new timetable has not yet been signed off by ministers, but the start of the new regime is expected to slip into next year.

Rishi Sunak has a bloody nerve saying that another benefit of Brexit has allowed the govt to reduce the price of beer in pubs.

Alcohol duty was never harmonised, and has always been far higher in the UK than the EU, and will continue to be so. :x

He's talking a complete load of old Boris.

Its all spin, We pay far more in taxes in the UK than Europe. The Conservatives no matter what they say are a high tax party it is just that they hide and confuse people with the taxes they charge.

However it has to be remembered that whatever party is in power. Taxes are a necessary evil, if we are to live a comfortable life and the cost of government is to be paid for.

Europe is of course +/- 30 sovereign nations with their own tax rates. Duties on (some) alcohol is lower than UK in France. And much higher in Finland.
