Oddly we were discussing only yesterday how immigrants have benefited this country over the centuries. How far back to you want to go? The Normans conquered the Anglo Saxons and had profound effects on England and to some extent Wales. The Strangers as they were known were Protestants from The Low Countries who settled in places like Norwich. Because of the skills they brought with them Norwich became foremost in producing the cloth the rich desired. No longer one colour but multi print cloth was being produced in East Anglia. And they brought the Canary with them and they became so accepted their bird was in many houses of the locals. And of course came to be the nickname of Norwich City FC centuries later.William Joseph1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25 2019 6:22pm
Immigration has bought nothing but good to this country. Immigrants over many years have worked and paid taxes and contributed to the life and diversity of this country in many untold ways. How insular would we be without them? I welcome them and all the good they bring to the country.
The way Jews were treated in Eastern Europe meant many came here from the late 19th century onwards. Just think what those refugees/immigrants have done for this country.
Yes, some immigrants are criminals but then again so are some of indigiousness Brits..
