It would appear that Liz Truss has resigned, New leader to be announced next week after a one week leadership Ballot by MPs only.

Update 14:20 its all a bit unclear, but apparently the ballot will go to the membership unless there is only one candidate. Not sure how they will get it all done in one week. I wonder whether there is a person in mind to coalesce around.

No one has said they will stand, although Jeremy Hunt has said he will not be standing.

Truss quite smiley making her resignation statement; she looks relieved that it's over.

Yes, I thought she looked happy, not a tear in sight.

She could be entitled to £115k/year for life, if rumours are true. Nice benefit for 44 days in office.

Overtaken by events...... that's a common issue with grenades.

Apparantly The Times is reporting that Boris Johnson is expected to stand and is taking soundings from other MP's. If that is true then it will be extraordinary and unprecedented.

The General Public being interviewed on the beeb keep saying they want a General Election. But before that can happen a Tory party leader needs to be elected. Any GE would have to happen after that. So there will have to be a period with a new PM (or am I missing something).
