Converting the public to using rent as you go bicycles may or may not be a good idea but the recent increase in the number of firms providing these forms of transport has recently increased dramatically and with equally dramatic consequences:

Be warned before any green lobby wants to introduce it to your town/city...!!!

Easily solved:
FREE Credits for parking your bike in a designated area.
You would be amazed at what people will do for money / to save money / to earn points.
Look at the recent example of the plastic bag charge and the dramatic decline in the consumption of plastic bags in the UK.

"A green initiative gone completely wrong". What a twisting of facts.
Some people are stupid/thoughtless when they park their rental bike. The story highlights the need for hirers to park more sensibly.
The headline on the thread merely serves to illustrate the OPs prejudices.

Go into any supermarket and you will see people looking on shelves with their trolley or pushchair facing the opposite shelf making it difficult to get past with your trolley on a busier day.
Some people are thoughtless and stupid where they park bikes, trolleys, pushchairs etc. Does not mean that supermarket trolleys or pushchairs need to cause problems or be banned. Just like these bikes.

Thank you for highlighting my prejudices as I try and forewarn other members of green initiatives gone wrong; you just concentrate on your holier than thou stance...!

But it is not a green initiative gone wrong but stupid and thoughless people are to blame.
You could talk about a car crash but the car did not cause the crash, the driver crashed the car.
In the same way people keep saying the Barnby Bends are dangerous and need a bypass. They are not dangerous, but the idiots who overtake on the bends despite the white lines which say no overtaking allowed are.
So you see this green Initiative is no more wrong than a car driven properly on any road

Is it holier than thou to call you out for headline which twists the facts? After all, you did something very similar recently in your post linking to a story about arctic dogs in melting ice.

Mmmm, this appears to be a green initiative and it appears not to be working but the comrades are not allowed to agree with that or their whole ethos of green can't possibly be wrong collapses...

"It's a green initiative". The only green mentioned in the linked item is a Mr Andy Greene. Cities promote bike hire because it's fashionable, because it helps reduce congestion, as well as for green motives. Users of city bikes may do so for fun, for convenience or for exercise, not just for green motives
"not working" - all we know is that some hirers are parking their bikes badly/irresponsibly at the end of hire. That isn't evidence of whether the initiative is or isn't working.
"comrades" - if you mean those on the political left - what's that got to do with it? People on all parts of the political spectrum support environmentalism - David Cameron wanted his to be the greenest government ever and, in the same vein, I don't suppose Arthur Scargill is a big fan of solar energy.
So - twisting facts with your headline? Definitely
